There is an emerging consensus among prominent scientists that anything above a 2^oC increase in global temperatures above pre-industrial levels will be dangerous and irreversible with potentially catastrophic global impacts (Preston, Jones, 2006; Bali Climate Declaration by Scientists, 2007).

Even a 2°C increase in temperature would severely impact Australia, its neighbours, and key trading partners in the region.
