The Climate Institute was established with the goal of raising public and political awareness about the dangers to Australia of global warming and to motivate people and governments to take positive action.
Founded in 2005 by The Poola Foundation (Tom Kantor Fund), The Climate Institute has, in its brief history, recorded an impressive number of achievements on climate change issues.
Without decisive action, the economic and environmental threat that climate change represents will increasingly affect us all. Decisive action, however, can not only significantly boost clean energy and low carbon jobs and industries, it can create societies better in touch with natural and regional communities.
The Climate Institute is an important and influential organisation in the climate change space and is widely regarded as an Australian “thought leader”. The Climate Institute is in a unique position in relation to other climate change interested groups in that it is solely focused on the issue of climate change, integrating both national and international dimensions.
The Climate Institute’s critical research and analysis of climate impacts, community attitudes and economic risks and opportunities, has clearly contributed to significant developments in policy and practice. These findings are strategically timed and targeted to educate and influence community, business and political leaders who have the power to effect positive change.
The Climate Institute is headed by a group of outstanding social entrepreneurs whose wealth of experience has given them the technical skills, credibility and networks to have the highest level impact on how governments, business and communities address climate change.
