“This is a very welcome and solid start towards stimulating billions of dollars of investment and creating thousands of jobs through the renewable energy industry and improving energy efficiency,” said Erwin Jackson, Director Policy and Research for the Climate Institute.
“A commitment to the implementation of the RET; stronger building codes and nationally consistent minimum energy performance standards for domestic appliances are all critical elements of an economically responsible climate change strategy.
“However, a critical missing element is the need, for all heads of government, to focus on unlocking the thousands of jobs and energy productivity improvements that could be created by investment in retro-fitting the commercial building sector.
“Exemptions to big polluters are ‘perverse’ but not poisonous and shouldn’t hold up the implementation of the RET.”
