The 2010 Pollute-o-Meter website has launched! Click on the balloon to have a look.
The Climate Institute commissioned leading risk analysts, climate risk and energy statisticians to assess the impact of the climate policies announced by each of the major parties.
Called the Pollute-o-Meter, this resource will give people a clearer idea of the differences between the major parties' climate policies.
Pollute-o-Meter output will show how each parties' climate policies would affect Australia's greenhouse gas emissions if implemented.
Download the 2010 Pollute-o-Meter and Star Rating Fact Sheet (Click here).
...And for further detail on how the parties are rated, download our Star Rating Details Sheet (Click here).
For detailed results of the modelling run to test specified climate change policy packages see below:
The Climate Institute supports the intent of the Coalition’s policy on soil carbon, i.e. to improve the condition of Australian soils and draw carbon down out the atmosphere. However, our analysis suggests that, for the reasons outlined in the report (Download here), the Coalition’s policy is unlikely to achieve the level of abatement suggested and the Institute cannot include it in our Pollute-o-meter modelling exercise. Note that the Institute cannot model the Greens’ commitment to mandatory accounting for forest management for the same reason.
